We'd like to offer the following
suggestions on how to choose a builder.

Choosing your custom builder is the most critical part of building your custom home.  You and your builder will form a partnership which will last for many months.  It is important you spend whatever time is necessary in choosing a custom home builder.

  • Call your local home builders association for a list of custom home builders.  Check with friends, relatives, and real estate agents for additional names of custom builders.
  • Set up an interview with three builders from those you have compiled.  Suggested number of interviews is three.  This will help you to remember key notes about each builder.
  • Ask the builder for a list of references, preferably four to five past clients.  Arrange a visit with each of these clients so that you may see the builders product.  Do these clients recommend this builder?
  • Call the local Better Business Bureau.  Does the builder have and outstanding complaints on file?  Call the local home builders association.  Is the builder a member in good standing.
  • Ask to see current certificate of insurance.  Does the builder carry casualty and worker’s compensation insurance?
  • Do you feel comfortable with the builder?  You need to feel that you can develop good working relationship with the builder.
  • Does the builder offer a homeowners warranties package?

“A custom builder is an entity that provides a service to construct a unique home or building that meets a specific client’s needs and desires.”
